Three official PS4 console bundles now expected at launch
It’s just under two months until the PS4 launches on November 15. Retailers in launch territories will be vying for as much stock of the console, accessories, and games to meet demand. However, the console situation is set to get a bit more complicated as Sony has apparently decided to offer three different official bundles from launch.
In total that will mean there’s four console options, with the choices being:
- Standard PS4 console
- PS4 with Watch Dogs
- PS4 with Killzone
- PS4 with additional controller and PlayStation Camera
Pricing has yet to be confirmed for the bundles, and will obviously vary based on the sales tax that applies on a per region basis. It seems likely, however, that the bundle with game will cost between $429-$449, and the controller/camera option will be $449-$479. Both of which easily undercut the base price of theXbox One.
The news of three official bundles is coming from a UK online retailer and hasn’t yet been official confirmed by Sony. More details are expected next week, and should give gamers plenty of time to decide exactly what they want to pick up on launch day. That’s if there’s any stock left to go out and buy, of course.
One thing that does surprise me is a lack of a Knack bundle. We’ve seen evidence of a Knack bundle before, including an image of what’s included. Either Sony changed its mind, is only going to offer that in Japan when the console launches in February, or there’s still another bundle to be unveiled. But then we’ve also heard about a Killzone bundle that matches the price of the Xbox One, but includes the camera and an extra controller as well.
Sony certainly has the upper hand in this coming hardware generation simply by having the cheaper console and launching a week earlier than the Xbox One. There’s also rumors that the PS4 is simply a better machine in terms of performance, and coupled with how easy it is meant to be to develop games for, Microsoft could face a tough time in the run up to the Holidays and into 2014.
