Rapper demands Rockstar pay up or pull GTA V from sale

If you don’t count the launch issues surrounding GTA Online, then it’s been a fantastic few weeks for Rockstar. GTA V is a huge success, grossing over a billion dollars in just three days and breaking seven world records.
However, that success is in jeopardy if (and it’s a big if) rapper Daz Dillinger has his way. That’s because he is asking Rockstar to either pay him a lot of money or both remove GTA V from sale and recall all copies of the game sold thus far.
The problem Daz Dillinger has with both Rockstar and game publisher Take-Two Interactive, is the fact they have used two of his songs without permission. Those songs being C-Walk andNothin’ But the Cavi Hit. Apparently Rockstar offered the rapper $4,271 for their use, but he turned that down as “offensively low.” Then they used the songs anyway, and he’s taking action.
So now Rockstar has been given 14 days to respond to Daz before his attorney takes things further. It seems unlikely Daz would ever manage to get the game taken off store shelves, let alone millions of copies recalled, but he may be able to squeeze a bit more cash out of Rockstar to stop this going any further.
What’s surprising is why Rockstar used the tracks in the first place if the deal hadn’t been done. GTA V has such a wide selection of music anyway, they wouldn’t really miss these two tracks from the former Dogg Pound member.
