First five minutes of BioShock Burial at Sea: Rapture looks better than ever
A few months ago, Irrational Games revealed upcoming campaign DLC for BioShock Infinite. Rather than revisit the floating city of Columbia in some fashion, the game’s protagonist and deuteragonist will be visiting the original BioShock’s underwater city of Rapture.
Though BioShock Infinite was a fine game crafted with attention and detail, and its airborne city of Columbia was a vibrant, highly realized imagining of what America would’ve been like had its citizens worshipped its founders like religious idols, the game left some series fans unfulfilled. This wasn’t because the twists and turns of the story were a little silly at times, or because the game eschewed the series staple silent protagonist in favor of one that made quips for half the game that weren’t funny, but because the original game’s underwater city of Rapture was incredible.
Andrew Ryan’s ocean dystopia was likely the most incredible city to ever appear in a video game (and perhaps in all of entertainment media), so much so that Irrational is taking Infinite’s characters back to Rapture in the upcoming DLC. To whet our appetites, the first five minutes of that DLC, Burial at Sea, have been uploaded for our viewing pleasure.
Be careful not to watch the clip if you want to come into Burial at Sea completely fresh, without any idea of what’s going on.
What you should know, whether or not you watch the above clip, is that the DLC will come in two parts — one where you’re in control of Infinite’s protagonist Booker DeWitt, then another where you’re in control of Elizabeth, Infinite’s damsel-in-distress deuteragonist. Rather than revisit the city years after its collapse in the vein of BioShock 2, we’ll be visiting the city on the eve of that collapse, which is the one story fans of the series are still clamoring to play.
The first piece of the Burial DL-sea is expected to be released before the end of this year. Irrational has also released the full achievement list for the game, which you can view here. Again, though, this contains spoilers.
